Winter
Winter Around 7:15 this evening, it started snowing in Cambridge. While heading back to my dorm, I ran into Kevin. The both of us being from California, we were ecstatic and decided to go grab our cameras and take as many random pictures as we could. These people, in true MIT fashion, got right down to business and started making snowballs. A picture inside a picture The Alchemist! We saw tons of bunnies in Killian Court! Weâre talking big, fluffy, ephemeral flakes of snow, not that pretzel-salt stuff you get pelted with while skiing. It floated down lackadaisically, eddied in the streetlights along dorm row, and soon covered the entire campus in a powdered-sugar cast. Itâs incredible how different everything looks covered in snow. Maybe itâs just my untrained eyes, but everyday objects take on a poetic aspect dusted in powdery white. As another friend (also from California) put it: âOne minute I was walking through MIT, and now Iâm walking through Narnia!â Laura was making a beautiful piece of art in the snow! Trees Bicycles Even this persons car. Hey, I wonder who did that?! The snow didnât last very long; soon it started raining, and it had melted significantly by the time we made it back to dorm row. But never fear! Thereâs some hope of a snowstorm on Saturday. And Im sure well get enough snow over the next few months to satisfy everybody from Californias appetite for it! *You can find the rest of my and Kevins pictures here. (I highly recommend looking through Kevins pictures, he photographed the bunnies in Killian Court quite prolifically!)

Finance is distinct from economics in that it addresses not only how resources are allocated but also under what terms and through what channels. Financial contracts or securities occur whenever funds are transferred from issuer to buyer. Real assets are tangible things owned by persons and businesses such as residential structures and property, major appliances and automobiles, office towers, factories, mines, machinery and equipment. On the other hand, financial assets are what one individual has lent to another such as consumer credit loans and mortgages. The household is the primary provider of funds to businesses and government. Households must accumulate financial resources throughout their working life times to have enough savings (pension) to live on in their retirement years. Besides that, financial intermediaries transform the nature of the securities they i ssue and invest in. These include banks, trust companies, credit unions, insurance firms and mutual funds. On the other hand, market intermediaries simply help make markets work which include investment dealers and brokers. Funds can be channeled from saver to borrower in three ways which are direct intermediation, direct transfer from saver to borrower or a non-market transaction; direct intermediation, a market-based transaction usually through a market intermediary such as a broker; indirect claims through a financial intermediary, where the financial intermediary such as a bank offers deposit-taking services and ultimately lends those deposits out as mortgages or loans. Net Surplus Margin Both the ratio for the years 2011 and 2012 also to 1, which means that if there is 1$ of sales, then there will be 0.17$ surplus and 0.18$ surplus for the two years respectively. There can be seen that the net surplus margin for year 2012 is higher than the year 2012 by 0.01 on the above Table 1. This is because of the difference between the total income for the both years 2011 and 2012. This may due to the funding and donation for the company. (ii). (1224 words) Conclusion As a conclusion, the objective of financial statements analysis is to show how to rearrange information from financial statements into financial ratios that provide information about five areas of financial performance which are short-term solvency, activity, financial leverage, profitability and value. Accounting statements provide important information about the value of the firm. Financial analysis learns how to rearrange financial statements to squeeze out the maximum amount of information. Business finance has three main areas of concern which are capital budgeting, capital structure and working capital management. The goal of financial management in a for-profit business is to make decisions that increase the value of the stock, or, more generally, increase the market value of the equity. The corporate form of organization is superior to other forms when it comes to raising money and transferring ownership interests, but it has the significant disadvantage of double taxati on. There is the possibility of conflicts between stockholders and management in a large corporation. (160 words)

News Commentary On Crime And The Media - 924 Words
Lastly, the dramatization by news programs today produces a glamorization of crime. News stories on crimes are extremely popular due to the fact that audiencesââ¬â¢ remember bad news much easier than good news. Take history for example, much of history is filled with recounts of gruesome murders, wars, and scandals. An estimated 71 million viewers across the country tune in to their local news stationââ¬â¢s broadcast (Yanich, 2004, p. 537). It can easily be assumed then that an estimated 71 million people will know the basic details of a crime that their news station is broadcasting. Crimes and their corresponding cases are exceedingly well known by viewers at the time when they are broadcasted; people know the names of the suspects, victims, and the main details of the crime itself. As posited in Yanichââ¬â¢s article (2004) on crime and the media, ââ¬Å"The mediaââ¬â¢s treatment of and its relationship to crime and justice policy has received much attention.â⬠(p. 5 35). With all of this attention on crimes in the news it is not surprising that in many instances alleged or even convicted criminals are seen as celebrities. Social Darwinism Free Essays
This began in the nineteenth century as a way of supporting natural selection and the basis that the species best suited to survive any given situation would prevail over the lesser beings. The actual concept of Social Darwinism was not the idea Charles Darwin presented, but the confirmation people needed. The main issues relevant to this theory are business, sexism and racism. We will write a custom essay sample on Social Darwinism or any similar topic only for you Order Now From generation to generation, all species change slightly over time. Organisms of very type share similarities with their ancestors. Sometimes children will show similarities from their grandparents, great-grandparents or ever further back. If a certain individual has a superior trait which will help them survive more effectively, that individualââ¬â¢s offspring is more likely to also show that trait. Variations in the traits are on a genetic level and these variations happen randomly at different intervals in time. These beneficial traits will prosper but most mutations donââ¬â¢t show up in offspring and will not be passed to future generations. Social Darwinism pass the philosophical beliefs into business practices in modern day. The survival of the fittest concept is proven if one takes a look in Fortune magazine. The best businesses will move on through monetary success and popularity and those businesses who fail will not be passed on. Each generation produces new and better ideas. As business progresses, people will have more information available to them whenever, wherever they need it. Andrew Carnegie states, ââ¬Å"The law of competition may be sometimes hard for the individual, [but] it is best for the race in every department. The Gospel of Wealth, 1889) The adaptation theory in Social Darwinism encourages those in business to work harder to be on top to show greater success. When we think about business and success, many people think of males. In our history, the womanââ¬â¢s role is mainly in the home, providing for their husbands and being a fertile ground. Social Darwinism shows that men are the more fit sex and women are weak. Although physically women as a whole are generally weaker than men, this theory has some imperfections. But, what this theory does not show is the ntelligence of women. More recently, success is defined regarding intelligence as opposed to physical strength, so the survival of the fittest theory does not exclude women. Looking deeper, the sexist theory does not always ring true. The greatest influence in the sudden development of racism in the 19th century Europe was the replacement of the Christian belief that ââ¬Å"God created all people equalâ⬠by ââ¬Å"Darwinismâ⬠. By suggesting that man had evolved from more primitive creatures, and that some races had evolved further than others, it provided racism ith a scientific side. The element of Darwinism which appeared most appliable to the development of society was the belief that the excess of population over the means of support was a constant struggle for survival in which it was the strongest or think that some races were morally better than others In conclusion, people can take parts of the Social Darwinism theory to apply to modern day ideas such as business. sexism and racism. Charles Darwinââ¬â¢s ideas may not always be seen as true but for now, it shows many possibilities. How to cite Social Darwinism, Papers social darwinism Free Essays

Part Two Observation One Diagnosis: Lower Back Pains Prescription: Physical Exercises at the Gym supervised by a qualified therapists. Lower back pains are extremely common to many people all over the wo rld. Therefore, based on the observations made, the program offers extensive physical therapy for the whole body but they concentrate more on the lower back body. This is mainly for the purposes of even bodily exercise for the body and at the same time treating the lower back injuries. During the first week of the program, the patients start with those physical exercises that are not strenuous. This ensures that, the muscles are not destroyed due to rapid expansion of the muscles. However, as the exercises progresses, the patient is introduced to exercises that are more strenuous. The first exercise includes the stretching of the lower back and whole body in general. In this case, the participants were advised to wear comfortable clothing. This is to reduce hindrances when performing the stretching exercises. Additionally, it ensures that the musclesââ¬â¢ soft tissues or the ligaments are not affected when a person is stretching. Secondly, participants were advised to perform the stretching exercises that are not painful. There are certain positions a person might take that would cause a lot of pain in the body instead of stretching the muscles. In this situation, the muscles might be injured causing more harm than good. When performing this exercise, it was observed that stretching should be done on a clean, dry, flat surface large enough to move freely. This eliminates unlikely mishaps that end up causing injury to the people. Moreover, it ensured that participants had enough room to perform all the stretching exercises needed. These stretching exercises included knee to chest stretch. In this case, a participant was to lay on the surface on his or her back. Fold their legs to form a position where the knees point upwards. The participant was the told to pull one of the knees towards the chest with his or her hands and hold for twenty to thirty seconds at the point him or her feels comfortable. After conclusion of stretching in the second week, the exerci se that was observed was the low-impact aerobics exercise. In this case, the participants were provided with stationary bicycles where they would cycle for a period. In most case, they were cycling for forty-five minutes. The exercise ensures that there is flow of blood to the lower back of the body. Additionally, the exercise ensures that other important nutrients are also transported to the lower backside of the body. On the other hand, this exercise also helps the other parts of the body like the limbs. This is because they two increase the blood and nutrients flow. The other exercise that was observed is the hamstring stretch in the third week. In this case, the participants were expected to stand and bend down slowly while their legs were straight. Their hands were expected to touch the tip of their feet. The participants were expected to hold when they reached a comfortable place for twenty to thirty seconds. It was observed that the patients repeated the exercise ten times. A s explained, this was meant to lengthen the muscles to reduce stress in the lower back pain. Finally, when the participants were shifting from one exercise to another, they were observed to jog on the spot. This was for the purposes of ensuring that there are no tissue or muscle injuries caused by the sudden stopping of the exercises. These exercises were done for more than two months interchangeably. After that, the participants stopped complaining about the back pain injuries showing that the exercises bore fruits. Observation Two Diagnosis: Arthritis Prescription: Aquatic exercises supervised by a qualified therapist Arthritis involves constant pains in the joints. The joints might become swollen while they are aching. Recently, Aquatic therapy has gained popularity in healing patients with arthritis. The observations are for seven weeks. According to the observations made in the program, participants were expected to have a qualified physician in place to supervise the exercise. According to the physician orders, the water in the pool was heated to a certain level of heat. This is to ensure that the participants do not burn while they are in the water. The participants entered the pool so that they can begin the exercise. It was noted that at every beginning of the session the participants were directly to enter into the water fully. No part of the body was to remain out side the water. This was done for twenty to thirty seconds. After that, the patients were expected to walk from one end to another while they were inside the pool. This would continue for twenty minutes as the participants take breaks while still in the water. It should be noted that this exercise was done on the shallow end of the pool. The next exercise was done on the deep end of the water where the patients were expected to stay in the middle of the pool without support for about five minutes and then rest. The exercise was repeated for about five times before the class was over. It wa s also observed that those participants who new how to swim were the only ones who were allowed to go to the deep end of the pool. Additionally, those who knew how to swim were encouraged to swim after the lesson. This exercise was done for more than two months. Part Three Observation One According to the guideline presented, the class was almost exact. This is because it maintained the level of professionalism and they offered the participants what was in the guideline. For instance, a clear example indicating step-by-step exercises to the back patient is given out. When one is in the program, the exercises are supervised according to what is written in the brochure .In addition, the resources used for the exercises are similar to what is written in the guideline. Therefore, money spend by the participants is worth any penny. In this case, any body who wants to try out the swimming exercises is worth doing it at the gym rather than doing it at home. The main strengths of the class were the professional physicians who were available for the class. They portrayed an amount of professionalism and they were able to offer patients the best physical exercises. Additionally, the rooms and equipments used for the exercise were excellent. The only problem was that the amount of time offered for the class session was too short. The simple back exercises were expected in the observation but the bicycle exercises were not expected. The only recommendation after the observation would be addition of time during the sessions. Observation Two In this observation, the sessions did not fully meet the guidelines presented in the beginning. This is because they did not offer many aquatic exercises as stated in the guidelines. For instance, the guideline was written that there would be physical exercises in form of games. However, after observation there were no physical exercises in form of games. The money spend by the participants is not worth. The strengths of the program wer e the equipments used for the exercise. The pool was large enough and it had heating equipment. The turn of the participants was the most surprising thing in the observation. The only thing that is worth the participants money is the resources used in the gym. The only recommendation was to increase the number of exercises for the participants. Part Four Observation One I learned a lot from the observation because I did not know that all the exercises are interrelated. For instance, the low aerobics is for the whole body and most people use it for slimming purposes. In addition, aerobics enable the body to relax and it becomes easier to breathe. I was shocked to learn that it is also useful for the lower back injuries. I was shocked to learn that there is a specified timetable for every exercise during the four weeks. For example, in the first week, participants were expected to perform stretching exercises to open there muscles. This ensures that they are not injured while they are performing the strenuous exercises. I would recommend this site for the students because it is educative. Therefore, this assignment was extremely valuable. Observation Two I did not learn as much as I expected. The exercises were like a common basic swimming lesson. This is because the exercises that were being offered are similar to the swimming lessons I took when I was learning how to swim. To make this experience more valuable the physician should consider adding more exiting exercises. I would not recommend any students to perform the exercises under the prevalent conditions. This assignment was not that valuable. The only way to make it more valuable is by increasing more exercises in the program for the participants. After that, I can recommend students to the site. Essay on LAndscape OF Death
Essay on LAndscape OF Death Essay on LAndscape OF Death Harris 1 Sidney Harris Professor Shirley Brownlee ENGL 202 November 13, 2014 Margaret Atwood: ââ¬Å"Death By Landscapeâ⬠Losing someone or something you love or care deeply about is very painful. You may experience all kinds of difficult emotions and it may feel like the pain and sadness you're experiencing will never let up. These are normal reactions to a significant loss. But while there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there are healthy ways to cope with the pain. The character Lois in the story ââ¬Å"Death by Landscapeâ⬠, written by Margaret Atwood, exhibits grief and how it has an effect on life. As people often do, Loisââ¬â¢s life is affected by an event in her past that disturbs her. During her childhood years, Lois was traumatized when her best friend Lucy went missing and was blamed for it. Even though it is evident that Lois did not kill Lucy, a sense of guilt from Lucyââ¬â¢s mysterious death disturbs her psyche; she felt as if she could have stopped it from happening. Lois ââ¬Å"was living not one life but two: her own, and another, shadowy life that hovered around her and would not let itself be realizedâ⬠. The guilt tears her apart on the inside and sends her into a depression, even neglecting her family from her thoughts, seeming to isolate herself form everyone. Lois had a very difficult time dealing with this. In Janis DiCiaccoââ¬â¢s book ââ¬Å"The Colors Harris 2 of Grief : Understanding a Child's Journey Through Loss From Birth to Adulthoodâ⬠she wrote ââ¬Å"Grief is a long and difficult journey during the years a child is growing up. The goal of this journey- to heal the deep griefâ⬠. This is evidence that shows how difficult it is for a child to deal with grief. When people pass they create memorials, or something to remember the person by. Lois keeps landscape paintings in her house, but not for love of the art, but because they remind her of the landscape her friend went missing. Atwood writes, ââ¬Å"She looks at the paintings, she looks into them. Every one of them is a picture of Lucy. You canââ¬â¢t see her exactly, but sheââ¬â¢s thereâ⬠. The paintings shows as a way for her dealing with her thoughts, the paintings do not bring her happiness. Atwood writes, ââ¬Å"She does not find them peaceful in the least. Looking at them fills her with a wordless uneaseâ⬠. Lois feels that she should keep the memory up of her friend because she feels guilty. Although this is painful it is also helpful to her getting over her grief. This is evident in ââ¬Å"Dying, Death, and Grief : Working with Adult Bereavementâ⬠by Mallon, Brenda. When to referring to Sigmund Freudââ¬â¢s work in her book, she wrote ââ¬Å"He believed the b ereaved person has to work through his grief by reviewing thoughts and memories of the deceased. By this process, painful as it is, the bereaved can achieve detachment from the loved one and the bereavedââ¬â¢s bonds with the deceased become looserâ⬠. This supports that Loisââ¬â¢s paintings were actually helping her deal with her grief. Throughout the story, we can clearly see how nature is presented as a negative role in Loisââ¬â¢ life. Her grief was shown throughout the story, with her assumption that there was something more to her paintings. Atwood gave an abstract idea of why Lois chose these Harris 3 paintings, with describing each scene of the wilderness. Atwood wrote ââ¬Å"There are no backgrounds in any of these paintings, no vistas; only a great deal of foreground that goes back and back, endlessly involving you in its twists and turns of tree and branch and rock. No matter how far back in you go, there

The top 6 recruitment marketing tactics guaranteed to attract top talent
The top 6 recruitment marketing tactics guaranteed to attract top talent Recruitment marketing is a broad-based strategy that combines employer branding and time-tested marketing strategies with social media and technology to attract top talent to organizations. Often this type of marketing falls under the umbrella of the talent acquisition team- not simply to advertise a single job, but to also think bigger and attract talented candidates by increasing awareness of available jobs and improving how candidates view a company and its brand. Successful recruitment marketing can lead to better quality candidates and, in turn, better success for an organization overall.Chances are your organization already engages in some aspects of recruitment marketing, like posting on career sites or via social recruiting. Your companyââ¬â¢s website likely even communicates its brand to prospective candidates for hire and clients. But recruitment marketing, as a forward-looking strategy, attempts to lay the groundwork for future hires by attracting talented candidates to the company before a particular job opens up. According to a survey conducted by Pandologic, ââ¬Å"The State of Recruitment Marketing 2018,â⬠top recruitment marketing performers take it one step further in two key areas: candidate engagement and use of a technology platform for recruitment marketing. So how can you turn your recruitment marketing from good to great?Cultivate a talent networkFirst and foremost, cultivate a talent network: a pool of talented candidates that may not actively be seeking jobs but will be potential leads for the next job you need to fill. Doing so will benefit your company and talent acquisition team by reducing time to hire.Hire internally whenever possibleLook at home whenever possible to cultivate talent from within. Nurturing talent within an organization has a dual benefit. Not only do you hire a known quantity and tested talent, but the practice also benefits the employer brand. A company that offers mobility within the organization and has a good retention rate of employees who fulfill their careers sends a good message to future job candidates and can be integral to both the brand and the workplace environment.hbspt.cta.load(2785852, '9e52c197-5b5b-45e6-af34-d56403f973c5', {});Engage candidates at each step of the hiring processThe key to better candidate engagement is personalization. That can entail tactics like ââ¬Å"email lead nurturing,â⬠which involves marketing the company to potential job candidates through targeted emails, or it can involve ââ¬Å"career site personalization,â⬠which targets specific groups of talent by understanding where and how a certain segment of job seekers actually search for jobs.More sophisticated than blanket posting on job sites, personalization requires a better understanding of specific groups of talent. For example, where and how do engineers look for jobs vs. where and how do truckers look for jobs? The answers for every group will be slightly different, and engaging a particular group will require some marketing analytics and even artificial intelligence. There are even sophisticated forms of technology like chatbots that can help engage candidates by answering questions or scheduling interviews as they advance through the hiring process.Use social media strategicallySocial recruiting is vital to recruitment marketing, as most candidates engage daily with social media. This is especially true as Millennials enter the workforce and become a prime demographic of jobseekers. Social media profiles and blogs can help you find the right talent for specific jobs, and can also provide an excellent source for targeted advertising for the right candidates.Turn to tech to streamline your jobMany aspects listed above require the use of tech and analytics in order to be truly effective. Technology platforms that incorporate a variety of these aspects into one comprehensive strategy can automate processes and create more effective targeted ads and contacts through job board distribution and social recruiting all while developing and responding to marketing analytics. Find the right tech that will most benefit your organization.Pay attention to your dataWhile itââ¬â¢s best to take a comprehensive approach and employ multiple recruitment marketing tactics, itââ¬â¢s also important to test out your weak spots, examine where your recruitment strategies could do better, and continue examining the effectiveness of your recruitment marketing. Looking at the data as a whole with a careful eye will help lead you to more effective hires in the future.
